Lawmakers Take Aim at Tip Sharing

It appears as if the number of Las Vegas assemblyman are going to be taking a mid-tip sharing throughout the industry. Currently, some table dealers to have to share tips , which may be ruled to be illegal. The assemblyman, Joseph Hogan, a Democrat from the Las Vegas area, has gone as far as to call the tip sharing and inappropriate intrusion on what the dealers are supposed to be earning from the players. Tips are a larger part of the income for the dealers, which is the reason why there has been this outcry over the tip sharing. Tip sharing is definitely something that has received a lot of interest in a number of other industries, and continues to be a source of contention in most of these industries.

The controversy started when, according to police, some dealers are able to earn more than $100,000 including tips, came out during a Supreme Court ruling. Hogan is pushing for a bill that will attempt to legislate to sharing, in an effort to make sure that the industry handles the tip sharing fairly. Dealers are going to be able to launch a class-action lawsuit in order to receive the funds that they have lost as a result of the tip sharing, the tips they argue they are entitled to, based on the title of their job.

It was first implemented in 2006 by the Wynn Casinos, who were the first casino to implement the tip sharing policy. It is recommended that since that time, dealers have lost as much as $100,000 overall, as a result of the tip sharing program. The casinos have argued that this policy was endorsed and accepted during a collective bargaining arrangement with dealers. However, a number of dealers have come forward to sue the casinos, arguing that the casinos service team leads, with whom the tips were shared, actually have no claim to the tips.

There are many industries in which tip sharing is a common thing. This is likely one of the reasons that the casino industry decided that they were going to pick up on it, and start to use it in their own operations. Online gambling is sure to become a very popular industry in the coming years. It will be very interesting to see if the funds that are going to be created by online gambling are going to be worth it when weighed against the moral consequences. Many states are likely to not pass legislation that allows for online poker playing in various gambling activities, because it can be very detrimental and ruin lives in some cases, but generally the public opinion tends to be shifting on gambling as it becomes less and less of a problem that your average individual has to deal with.

It will be interesting to see what kind of ruling comes out of this, as a good change the operating state of an entire industry. If tip pooling is something that becomes more common throughout the casino industry, you will likely see it become more common in a number of other areas as well.
