Emerald Resort and Casino in South Africa hosting the WSOP in February 2013
The site for the 2013 World Series of Poker (Africa) has just put out a full program of entertainment to keep the under age and non gamblers entertained for the month of December. Set in the center of South Africa, on one of the largest rivers, the Vaal River, The Emerald Resort and Casino does its best to ensure that all visitors during December 2012 and January 2013 will have a full program of events lined up so those not gambling have no reason to be bored for a minute.
There is a beach party, races and Volleyball as well as Beach Volleyball lined up. Lunch time and evening entertainment and shows abound with give away prizes worth Thousands of Rand daily for young and old. Visitors from all over the Free State, North West, the Vaal Triangle and the rest of Gauteng will be thoroughly welcomed and will long to come back. But the big event for the Casino is however the World Series of Poker 2013 which will be hosted there at the beginning of February 2013. Drawing entries from the top players from all over the world they will begin hosting the warm up events prior to the main event which takes place between the 5th and 10th of February.
The World Series of Poker is a massive event. It started in 1970 and has been taking place every year since then making it the longest running tournament at over 40 Years. It began and still runs annually in Las Vegas in October although was delayed until November in 2012 because of the Presidential Election in the US.
Prizes are worth many millions and professional card players from all over the world desire to earn the Bracelet which acknowledges them as the world’s Champion Poker Player.
Although the WSOP remains in Las Vegas where it is hosted by Caesar’s Entertainment from 2007 it began expanding with a WSOP Europe held in September 2007 and the first Event in South Africa was in 2010. Although regarded as a circuit tournament and not a Bracelet event it is nevertheless a full on WSOP event with a schedule that is a mix of the various forms of poker.
As is the current fashion most of the main events revolve around the Hold’em variety of the Game. Some games are played with No Limit Hold’em Some with Six Handed Hold’em and of course everyone is vying to get to play at the main event.

The competition has grown very strong in South Africa where there are now a number of professional Poker Players. Indeed the winner of the 2012 February Final was a won by a professional called Joe-Boy Rahme, who used to be a restaurateur before he turned Pro.
