Denmark Creates History By Legalizing Online Gambling
January 1, 2012, marked the beginning of a new era in Denmark for online poker. The European Union member gave the green signal for regulated online gambling!
The Danish Gambling Authority granted 33 operators a total of 55 licenses, which was the first lot of licenses. Among the operators that have been granted licenses include nine Danish companies and about 20 from Malta. They have started their gambling services from the first day of the New Year.
A few of the licensed Danish companies include Betsson, PokerStars, 888, Betfair, Unibet, Danske Spil, Cryptologic, and Red Club Poker.
History Has Been Made
The Danish Gambling Authority will block the services of unlicensed operators from this month itself. Indeed, January 1 has become a historic date that speaks about the liberalization of online casino and gambling industry. It’s celebration time for not Denmark alone, but for the entire Europe, and maybe beyond the borders.
This legalization of gambling seeks to protect the interests of the gamblers as well as the operators. It also seeks to create a more orderly market for gambling. In fact, Denmark’s breakthrough step can provide an exemplary decision to other countries of Europe and outside.
This Breakthrough Month Has Lots to Offer
With the legalization of gambling, players will have lots to try out in games this month. The latest is the Video Poker tournament that allows players to play video poker games of their choice and grab big wins.
The days of January 8 and 9 saw the crowning of several winners at the casino 888. The first prize was jackpot cash of $3,300. Players were free to collect as many Comp Points as they could to be crowned. Besides this, the casino offered double bonuses, plus Event bonuses.
The Comp Point collector in the first position won $400, whereas the second and third positions won $200 and $150, respectively. There were also the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions, enabling players to win $100, $75, and $20, respectively.
Also, the top five Comp Point collectors on both days (January 8 and 9) received cash worth $2,500 (for first position), $500 (for second position), $300 (for third position), $200 (for fourth position), and $100 (for fifth position).
These days of January became two of the luckiest days of the year for players. They were required to wager a measly $50 to enter the game. Moreover, players could cash out the bonuses as soon as they wagered ×20 of the bonus amount.
How does it feel to gamble in a legalized environment? Well, the tricks of the games are the same, yet it feels different to try your luck with a licensed operator. Players, since the breakthrough day, are lining up in various licensed casinos to grab the first wins of this year.
Keeping up with the gambling spirit of players, the licensed casinos have geared up to provide ultimate gaming experiences accompanied with historic jackpots. After all, 2012 will go down in the history of Denmark as the “Freedom Year” for online gambling industry!
