Australian Gambling Bill Rejected

The Australian online gambling bill had been rejected by the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee discussing gambling reforms. This bill had been presented by Senator Xenophon in June 2011. But, on the issue of transactions, most members of the Parliament felt the bill was completely impractical. Moreover, if the gamblers lost, they could request for a transaction reversal which may lead to more reckless conduct. Another proposal for blacklisting illegal operators forwarded by Munchenberg, the Australian Bankers’ Association Chief Executive, was also turned down. The Joint Select Committee made its stand clear about not favoring introduction of any payment controls. It instead advanced 20 recommendations related to sports betting like the ban of company logos on jerseys, banning live odds promotions, banning on betting ads when children are viewing, and so on. The Committee even called for the need for further research before adopting a consensus on a national level on online gambling.
