Chicago Is All For Casinos

Chicago, a city in the state of Illinois, is one of the most famous cities in the United States of America. The city is famous as a blooming economic center as well as a cultural center. Now with the passing of the gambling expansion bill, Chicago will see the opening of its very first casino. The bill will also see the placement of slot machines in the two airports in the city. This will be a milestone in the history of the city.

The expansion bill passed by the senate will allow for the tripling of gambling in the State. The bill has approved the starting of at least five new casinos in the State as well as permission to expand the existing ones. There is also provision for slot machines to be set up in the Illinois racetracks and airports. One of the new casinos is set to open in Chicago. Though the bill has passed, the senate it still needs the signature of the Democratic senator Quinn who has openly stated that he is all for the casino in Chicago, but against the opening of the four other casinos. The senator has the option of passing the bill only in part, that is, after amending the parts that he feels needs change. The passing of the bill and the backing of the Chicago casino by the democratic governor has made the day for the Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel.

Critics of the bill state that as it lowers the taxes on the casinos, the increase in revenue is possible only with the opening of not just five, but many new casinos. Critics are also of the opinion that gambling would bring the economic conditions of the citizens down and would also attract a lot of unwanted people into the city limits. This sort of criticism is what the Mayor opposes. He says that keeping one percent of the population of the state away from gambling is not going to make any major impact, but only reduce the opportunity to grow economically.

It is ironic that the city of Chicago does not have a casino, despite being the most frequented city by tourists in the state. The irony even exists in the fact that the neighboring cities of Chicago like Indiana and Michigan have casinos in them. The Mayor of Chicago feels that not allowing a casino in the city in such a scenario is senseless. This is especially so when the city and the state is in a financial crisis and budget deficit. The passing of the bill is not only big for the city of Chicago, but also for the entire state of Illinois. It is bound to lead to the increase in the number of jobs and revenues in the state. In Chicago alone, the project is set to create jobs for as many as 4000 people. Chicago is again all set for greatness with the opening of its very first casino not too far into the future.
