ATF Suspects that Key Largo Casino Fire was Arson
There are many different considerations that are taken into account when there is a fire within a casino. As a result, these organizations have become pretty good at determining when there is some foul play involved. After a recent casino fire that was at the Key Largo Casino, there have been numerous reports regarding a possible arson, although there were no official determinations at that time. But, according to the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms organization, they believe that there was some foul play that is involved in the fire. Officials were not forthcoming regarding the amount of evidence that is available on the subject, but did offer an excellent $5,000 reward for any information that lead to the conviction of the responsible individual.
The fire was first reported to the fire department at 3:05 PM, on March 28th. The fire was a large one and caused a reported $4.5 million in damage to the building. The building was located on 377 Flamingo Road. In total, more than 100 different firefighters were responding to the call. Two were transported to the hospital after suffering injuries. No civilians were injured at the time, which was the lone bright spot. The Key Largo was first closed in 2005. At the time, it was closed to make room for what was supposed to be a tower of condos directly in its place. Those plans never came to fruition, leaving the building unattended over the course of the last seven years.
The building was first built in 1974, and since that time was one of the premiere locations in the Las Vegas area leading up to the 2008 financial collapse. Many contractors in the area had been hoping that the space would become available, but construction reached an absolute standstill following the 2008 collapse of the financial markets, and most people suspected that the area would never be inhabited again.
There is not currently information regarding exactly what is going to be done with the property moving forward. As of right now, there is an arson investigation underway. With the reward, you have to believe that there is not much information out there regarding who might be responsible for the burning of the building. The ATF has released information stating that they believe that the first was arson and that they have no further information on the culprit, or whatever clues that are available about it at this given time.
It will be interesting to see if any further arrests are made in the coming days. There have been many arrests to be taken into consideration for authorities in the coming days, and there are likely going to be a large number of individuals that will be under investigation for the fire that took so much. With so many millions of dollars in damage it is clear that authorities will be very interested in finding the perpetrator quickly, which is also evidenced by the huge reward that they have offered. The fire department and ATF are expected to release additional details in the future.
